Films we cannot wait for

Although our doors are closed, we look to the new year with lots of hope. We would like to highlight a number of beautiful, inspiring and comforting films that we are really looking forward to.

  • One of the favourites of our programmer: Madres Paralelas, the latest film by Pedro Almodovar. This beautiful film (one of his best!), starring a fantastic Penelope Cruz, is in the run for an Oscar. In 2022 you can watch this beauty at Rialto!
  • For fans of the Coen Brothers (who isn't) we will screen Joel Coen's The Tragedy of Macbeth in 2022, with star actors Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington.
  • Sun Children is a warm Iranian film that explores the world of children. This beautiful film was screened in the competition in Venice and at the Film Festival by the sea the youth jury proclaimed the film best film. Also one to put on your bucket list.
  • For feel good lovers: Amelie - 20th Anniversary. In 2022 we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of this colourful, fine, warm charming film about love.
  • And for those into costume drama, cats and Benedict Cumberbatch, put The Electrical Life of Louis Wain on your must-see list!
Films that will hopefully return

We also hope to show a number of films again in the new year that were shown at Rialto in the last couple of weeks before the lockdown. We'll let you know by then which films will play when Rialto can open again.

Hopefully see you in 2022!
