My Summer of Love
For the two teenage girls Mona and Tamsin their summer in the Yorkshire countryside is a time marked by pressing boredom. All this changes once they meet, when new worlds are opened up for both girls. Not only are they amazed by their different backgrounds —Mona grew up in a criminal working-class family, Tamsin was raised by well-off upper-class parents —they also start exploring love together. Tamsin's manipulative nature is however damaging to their burgeoning romance. Further complicating matters is Mona's brother Phil, who has recently been released from prison, where he became a born-again Christian.
Finding two teenage girls to play the roles of Mona and Tamsin proved difficult, director Pawel Pawlikowski searched for a long time. When the characters turned out to be too complex for non-professional actresses, he eventually decided to work with professionals: Natalie Press as Mona and Emily Blunt as Tamsin. Paddy Considine plays Phil.
