The Blue Trail
In the near future, the Brazilian government has come up with an ingenious solution to the “elderly problem”: everyone over 75 is declared “living heritage”, which amounts to the loss of all basic rights. They are no longer allowed to decide anything independently and are eventually put on transport to live out their last days in a remote elderly colony. This also awaits 77-year-old Tereza, a sprightly woman who has worked all her life in the Amazon and is far from finished with it. She would prefer to travel, but is no longer allowed to do so without her daughter's permission. The elderly colony seems terrible to her and so she decides to set off alone, across the Amazon.
After Divino Amor (2019), this is the second film in which director Gabriel Marscaro paints a dystopian picture of the future, this time starring a stubborn, strong woman who refuses to resign herself to the status of helpless old lady. Denise Weinberg gives shape to that woman.
