Papa Terrible
Musician Thijs embodies everything that filmmaker Jeroen, now a jaded father, seems to have lost: freedom, courage and unconditional love. When Thijs announces that he is going to be a father, Jeroen decides to follow him as he prepares for fatherhood. As he observes Thijs, he also begins to re-examine his own life and come to terms with what fatherhood entails.
An ironic coming-of-age documentary for men who should have grown up long ago. A film about failure and the silent panic of men who don’t know what they’re supposed to be. About fathers on the sidelines, and the shame of falling short. But also: about unexpected beauty, love without a manual, and the possibility that things will turn out all right after all – even if only a little.
