Sorry We Missed You

In 2014, British director Ken Loach announced his retirement from filmmaking after finishing Jimmy's Hall. Then, in 2016, he made I, Daniel Blake, his biggest success so far. This really was to be his final film, but once a filmmaker, always a filmmaker: he now has a new film out called Sorry We Missed You, in which he – again – makes no secret of his sympathies for the British working class.

Set in present-day Newcastle, where former construction worker Ricky and his wife Abby, a contract nurse and in-home carer, are struggling to make ends meet for their family of four. But Ricky is presented with a good opportunity: the chance to run a franchise as a self-employed delivery driver. The job requires a van though, which Ricky ends up buying in instalments. As he quickly discovers, the workload is enormous, the job itself riddled with countless impossible to comply with rules and protocols. Ricky's good opportunity soon becomes a millstone around the neck of his family.
