It is night and it's raining and raining. A man and a woman meet at a train station. The man is Zhou, a gang leader on the run from members of a rival gang, but mostly from the police. Zhou accidentally shot a cop during a violent run-in with the rival gang, so now the police have placed a hefty bounty on his head. Who can he still trust? The woman, prostitute Liu, is also on the run; but for whom or what? In any case, she has instructions to help Zhou. Who told her to do so? And will she really help him or will she turn him in?
Rain, darkness, a femme fatale, a crime – all standard film-noir ingredients are present in this film by director Diao Yi'nan, who previously made Black Coal. Diao alternates slow-paced storytelling with stylized, nerve-racking action scenes.
