A Woman of Paris

Marie (Edna Purviance) and her beau Jean (Chaplin) had planned to elope to Paris together, but she ends up in the City of Light alone. When Jean also arrives eventually, he finds Marie in the arms of a wealthy playboy... and things get complicated.

After Chaplin's huge success with his character The Little Tramp, he also wanted to show his serious side, choosing not to play the lead in this film. One of his actual reasons for producing the film was to help Purviance build a successful career, after she had played important roles in many of his films.
