The Gold Rush

The Little Tramp seeks his fortune in the Klondike gold mines. When a heavy snowstorm threatens, he seeks shelter and hides in an abandoned cabin with the criminal Black Larson and the good-natured Big Jim McKay. The men get hungry and are forced to eat what there is to eat. While Chaplin chews on his shoe, someone else considers committing murder to satisfy his hunger.

In this wonderful world where shoelaces look like spaghetti and sandwiches become ballet shoes, alchemist Chaplin turns gold into poetry. The Gold Rush was first released in 1925. After its re-release in 1942, the film was nominated for two Oscars in 1943.
