Frankenstein

In 1818, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, a novel by the then 20-year-old British author Mary Shelley, was published. In this horror story, she tells the tale of a mad scientist who manages to create a “living” creature from the body parts of dead people. And, of course, those who play God pay a high price. The story captured the imagination enormously, and continues to do so to this day; the list of films featuring Frankenstein's monster is endless. Director Guillermo del Toro, best known for Pan's Labyrinth, has now made his own version of the story.

Mid-19th century: a Danish ship is stuck in the Arctic Ocean. In the ice, the crew finds a seriously injured man who is being pursued by a monster with superhuman powers. The man is the brilliant, egocentric scientist Victor Frankenstein, and the monster is his own creation, manufactured in his laboratory. Victor tells the ship's captain what happened.
