Rodeo
Quirky Julia lives with her family in a flat in the banlieue. She has a job, but her heart is with motorbikes. During a test ride, she takes off on a pricey enduro bike and rides to a deserted stretch of road where she encounters a group of stunts performing motorbike boys. She seeks to connect, but the boys are not waiting for her. After an accident, she befriends one of them, Kais, and through him she gets to know the boss. Though he is in jail, he has jobs for her.
The world of motorbikes has fascinated director Lola Quivoron since childhood. Right in front of the flat where she lived, somewhere in a Parisian suburb, she saw boys cruising on motorbikes every day. That fascination was reflected in her 2016 short film Au loin, Baltimore. In Rodeo, her feature debut, she further explores this world in a social realist style coupled with energetic action.
