Inherent Vice
In 2009, American writer Thomas Pynchon published the bulky novel Inherent Vice. This writer's work does not fit into any pigeonhole: randomness and endless plotlines dominate the stories that rarely seem to have a head or tail. Filming such a novel therefore seems an impossible task, Paul Thomas Anderson, who made Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood and Liquorice Pizza, among others, is the first to try anyway. And with success: the film won him a whole slew of film awards and two Oscar nominations. Joaquin Phoenix plays the lead role.
Los Angeles, 1970: hippie private investigator Larry 'Doc' Sportello (Phoenix), he is constantly stoned, is hired by his ex-girlfriend Shasta to foil the kidnapping of her lover and real estate man Mickey. But when he starts the job, Mickey turns out to be untraceable, while not long after, Shasta also disappears without a trace. The search that follows brings him into contact with some very strange types.
