Tanja - Dagboek van een guerrillera
In the late 1990s, 19-year-old Tanja Nijmeijer decides to go to Colombia for an internship. Once there, she is confronted with the political unrest in the country. The harrowing situations she saw with her own eyes made her decide to join the FARC after her studies: at the time, the largest guerrilla army in the world with the aim of overthrowing the Colombian state. Although advised against it, Tanja does not shy away from danger for her ideals and quickly manages to work her way up within the organisation, eventually becoming a key figure in reaching a peace agreement.
This disconcerting documentary by Marcel Mettelsiefen, multiple award-winner and known for a.o. the documentary Watani: My Homeland, shows how Tanja turns from idealistic student into a member of the notorious FARC and ends up on Interpol's international investigation list.
