Carla Nowak has only recently started working at the grammar school, where she teaches maths and PE. She is young, idealistic and dedicated to her pupils, especially the problem cases. Her colleagues really don't understand; more than anything, they want the school rules to be scrupulously observed, even if harshly. When a thief is found walking around the school, the school management immediately takes drastic measures, which mainly affect Carla's pupils, as it is believed that the thief is one of her pupils. She goes to investigate herself and makes a discovery that rocks the school.
When is something true, when is prejudice involved, what is still fair? It is these pressing questions that German director Ilker Çatak addresses in this exciting school class drama. The answers are not easy, it turns out, as everyone clings to their own version of the truth. Awarded at the Berlinale.
