Zomervacht
Thirteen-year-old Brian and his indifferent father Maurice live in a shabby caravan. When the care agency offers financial compensation to look after Brian's four year older severely mentally disabled brother Lucien during the summer holidays, Maurice eagerly agrees. Maurice works hard to repay his debts, but this means that caring for Lucien falls on Brian's shoulders. When things escalate between Maurice and his creditors and the mobile home is no longer a safe haven, Brian is forced to make a decision - for his brother's sake, as well as his own.
Zomervacht by director Joren Molter is based on Jaap Robben's bestseller of the same name, a story about how two very different brothers seem condemned to each other against their will but meanwhile get to know each other and discover how strong their bond is. Molter wanted to translate this "poetry of contrast" to film, resulting in this beautiful drama, his feature debut.
