Pass the Popcorn is back. Rudy and Yvette have joined forces to create a platform for the BIPOC nerds amongst us to freely and enthusiastically discuss epic films and series in the worlds of fantasy, science fiction, horror, superheroes and everything in between. Why are the wigs in THOTD so bad? Will Idris Elba ever be our James Bond? Is NOPE about your 15 minutes of fame? And let’s be honest, Halle? The best mermaid ever, right?

Through specials, premieres, events and talks, the two creatives will set up a space where it’s all good to spend hours discussing these kinds of topics. Join these Blerds!

Is God Is

In 2018, Aleshea Harris’ play Is God Is premiered in New York, a highly acclaimed work about a dysfunctional family, the lives of Black women, and impossible moral dilemmas. In 2024, it was announced that the play would be adapted into a film. Harris (naturally) wrote the screenplay and also directed the film. It marks her feature film debut. Kara Young and Mallori Johnson star in this gripping revenge film.

Twin sisters Racine and Anaia bear the scars they sustained as babies in a fire. One day, they receive a letter from their sick, bedridden mother, prompting them to visit her. This woman, also scarred by burns, tells them that their father—her husband—is responsible for the fire that left all three of them with scars. The mother gives her daughters a clear order: find your father and kill him. Racine and Anaia now face a choice: will they seek revenge or show mercy?
