Peter von Kant
In 1972, the German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder made the play and film Die bitteren Tränen der Petra von Kant, a powerful drama about the arrogant fashion designer Petra von Kant, her assistant Marlene, whom she treats like a piece of dirt, and the beautiful Karin, with whom she falls in love. Fifty years later, director François Ozon, the man who plays with genres, has taken up the story again. Interesting detail: Hannah Schygulla played the role of Karin in 1972; in this 'remake' she can be seen as the protagonist's mother.
The successful director Peter von Kant lives with his assistant Karl, whom he treats badly and humiliates. Through star actress Sidonie, he meets Amir, an attractive young man from a modest background, with whom he instantly falls in love. He offers to help him enter the film industry, but once he has broken through internationally, Amir soon disappears. Time for some self-reflection.
