Mulholland Drive
If there is one thing David Lynch rarely does, it is tell a story with a well-defined beginning, middle and end. It has earned him cult director status, of someone who explores the dark caverns of the human soul in his own, often surreal way. In Mulholland Drive, he outdoes himself in this; there is no logic, there are bizarre events to be experienced.
A dark-haired woman (Laura Harring) survives a car crash on Mulholland Drive, a winding street in Beverly Hills, her malicious fellow passengers are dead. Injured, she runs to the city and hides in an empty flat. The next morning, the somewhat naive Betty Elms (Naomi Watts) arrives at that flat. She has come to Los Angeles hoping to become an actress. Betty is shocked when she finds the stowaway, but soon decides to help the woman, who now calls herself Rita. Their friendship grows into love, the mystery takes strange twists and turns.
