Leila's Brothers

As the only woman in a family with four brothers, life certainly isn’t easy for Leila. The poor state of the Iranian economy due to the many sanctions is also noticeable in this household where money worries determine everyday life. Three of the four brothers have been unemployed for years and when the fourth loses his job too, it is clear to Leila that something has to change. She has her eye on an empty shop space in Tehran, where she and her brother want to start a business. To do so, however, she needs money. However, their 80-year-old father Heshmat has very different plans, and they also cost money.

In this family drama, director Saeed Roustayi, best known here for Just 6.5, tells a story about the gap between tradition and modernity. He does so by showing a woman who is anything but resigned to entrenched notions of how things should be. Actress Taraneh Alidoosti stars as Leila.
