El Topo

El Topo: a true western with a formidable gunslinger and numerous bizarre characters, full of Christian symbolism and references to Eastern philosophy, dealing with the road to enlightenment - it is one of Alejandro Jodorowsky's best-known films. He not only signed on to direct, he also wrote the screenplay and score. In addition, he plays the lead role himself.

With his little son on the back, the mysterious El Topo, dressed in black, traverses the desert on his horse. He passes a town where all the inhabitants and their cattle have been murdered and decides to go after the perpetrators, who are led by a fat, balding colonel. He finds them and deals with them. Leaving his son with monks, he takes a woman who was held captive by the colonel. Marah, as he calls her, wants him to prove he is the best gunslinger by confronting the four grandmasters of the desert.
