Fando y Lis

In 1953, Jodorowsky moved from Chile to Paris, where he met writer/director/artist Fernando Arrabal. In 1962, the same year they founded the Panic Movement in honour of the Greek god Pan, Arrabal wrote the play Fando y Lis, an avant-garde, surrealist piece that can be interpreted in countless ways. Six years later, Jodorowsky made his feature film debut with the adaptation of this play. The film had its world premiere at the Acapulco Film Festival in Mexico, but caused such a stir that it was immediately banned there.

Fando and his paralysed girlfriend Lis wander through a desolate, post-apocalyptic landscape. They are in search of the mythical city of Tar, a place where the true nature of Eternity reveals itself, and a place where enlightenment can be attained. It will be a journey full of extremely strange encounters and deeply disturbing events.
