Love Life

On the face of it, Taeko leads a carefree life in Japan with her second husband Jiro and her six-year-old son Keita from her first marriage. But appearances are deceptive: her in-laws, who live not far away, are troubled by the marriage and would prefer to have a grandson of their own After a fatal accident, Taeko's first husband, the deaf-mute Park from South Korea, suddenly shows up on her doorstep again. He has not been heard from for years, yet Taeko, always willing to help others, feels obliged to take care of him; after all, he has no roof over his head. This puts a strain on her marriage.

Director Kôji Fukada, best known here for 2019's A Girl Missing, once again shines his light on the complexity of human relationships and dealing with big emotions like love and grief in this family drama that is as introvert as it is bittersweet. The lead role is played by Japanese star actress Fumino Kimura.
