Cineville Speciaaltje: Return to Seoul
Fancy something extra? We do too, which is why we present a series of special screenings for all Cineville members (and friends): Cineville Speciaaltje. Because we think special is the new normal!
On March 21st we invite you and your best friend to Rialto VU for an early screening of Return to Seoul, about 25-year-old Freddie, who decides to go to South Korea on a whim, in search of her biological parents. What’s meant to be a short trip turns into an eight-year long journey, visiting packed nightclubs and quiet villages.
A free specialty drink and a Cinematic Cities-quiz with some cool prizes are all part of this Speciaaltje. And last but not least, if you’re a Cineville member, you can bring a +1 free of charge. Sitting side by side, you can explore the streets of Seoul together.
Shikoo Boxman introduces and hosts the evening.
Like the protagonist in the film, Shiko was adopted from South Korea and grew up in the small town of Kampen in Overijssel. While studying History, he got involved, first as a volunteer and then as a programmer, in CinemAsia Film Festival, where he returned as general director after a long stay in his native country. Besides this film festival, he was active at several cultural institutions such as Movies that Matter, Amsterdam Fringe Festival and collaborated on several documentary productions including on inter-country adoption and Korea.
