Burning Days

Young lawyer Emre is the new prosecutor in the small Turkish town of Balkaya. The mayor of the small town, which is plagued by endless drought especially in summer, is in the middle of the election campaign, promising everyone to vastly improve the water supply. The mayor and his clan hold a lot of power in the town, Emre soon notices; nepotism is the order of the day. Emre decides to put an end to this and he starts by reprimanding the mayor's son. In Murat, editor of an opposition newspaper, he finds an ally as well as a friend. But can the political scheming be stopped?

In this exciting and oppressive thriller, Turkish director Emin Alper, known here for A Tale of Three Sisters, not only shows how corruption and nepotism poison daily life, but also the impact of climate change. It has since earned him many film awards.
