Un petit frère

In the late 1980s, Rose moves with her two young sons Jean and Ernest from the Ivory Coast to a banlieue in Paris. Relatives, with whom they move in, would prefer to see Rose marry a common acquaintance as soon as possible. However, the independent Rose chooses her own path in life, although as a single mother and immigrant it is by no means easy. Rose meets several men, but all these relationships do not last long. Jean in particular struggles with all these partners, causing a rift to grow between him and his mother. He is on the verge of making wrong choices. For Ernest, life looks different: he is a very good student, a promising career lies ahead. But things aren’t easy for him, either.

This moving family chronicle, Léonor Seraille's second film, spans decades, with events told first through the eyes of Rose, then of Jean and finally of the youngest child Ernest, the 'petit frère' of the title.
