How to Save a Dead Friend

The year is 2005: then 16-year-old Marusya saw no future for herself in authoritarian and unfree Russia. Therefore, she planned to end her life before the year is over. But then she met Kimi Morev in whom she recognised a kindred spirit - a troubled boy who knew all Joy Division songs by heart, a boy with scars on his wrists. Thanks to the strong and loving bond with him, Marusya regained meaning in life; he was her support and refuge. Kimi, on the other hand, dealt with the demons in his life with more and more drugs; "Life is merciless", he was convinced. Marusya captured it on camera.

In this personal documentary, her critically acclaimed debut, Marusya Syroechkovskaya not only portrays herself and the incorrigible junkie Kimi, she also paints a harrowing picture of an entire generation of Russian youth in danger of going under due to lack of perspective.
