Fallen Leaves
Two lonely souls meet by chance during an average night in Helsinki. Both looking for the first, only and ultimate love of their lives. Reaching this goal together proves pretty difficult due to his alcohol consumption, lost phone numbers and not knowing each other's names or addresses. Life tends to put obstacles in the way of those striving for happiness, which certainly does not help.
With Fallen Leaves, Finnish filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki (Le Havre, The Other Side Of Hope) realises his nineteenth feature on universal themes of love, togetherness and hope and, as always, he does so restrained and small, but with humour. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize.
