L'été dernier

At 17, Catherine Breillat published her first novel, L'homme facile, a book she had not been allowed to read herself because the French authorities ruled that, because of its explicit sexual content, it was only suitable for readers aged 18 and above. The work set the tone for her subsequent career in which she broke many taboos on sexuality and intimacy - including in the 20 films she has made since 1976. The 'awkward' love story of L'été dernier, a remake of the 2019 Danish Queen of Hearts, is no exception.

Successful lawyer Anne (Léa Drucker) is married to Pierre and together they have two daughters. One day, 17-year-old Theo, Pierre's son from a previous marriage, moves in with the family. Initially, Anne and Theo's relationship is somewhat strained, but they soon get on well together, culminating in a secret, stormy love affair. Anne knows she is risking everything in the process.
