Der Himmel über Berlin
Director Wim Wenders has a decades-spanning oeuvre that includes numerous memorable films that have become classics, such as the critically acclaimed Der Himmel über Berlin. The almost transcendent story, written by Wenders himself together with Peter Handke and Richard Reitinger, not only tells about the relationship of angels to man, it is also an ode to Berlin, which at the time was still divided in two by the Wall. Bruno Ganz, Solveig Dommartin and Peter Falk play the leading roles.
Damiel (Ganz) is one of the angels watching over the city of Berlin and its inhabitants. Angels cannot have contact with humans, nor know what it is like to undergo sensory experiences and emotions. Damiel would like all that, especially since he has fallen in love with lonely circus performer Marion (Dommartin). However, he would then have to give up his immortality. Meanwhile, an American film actor (Falk) has also touched down in Berlin - a man aware of the angels.
