Priscilla
If there is one American artist who achieved iconic status, it is Elvis Presley, the one and only King of Rock and Roll, who died in 1977. In 1967, he married young Priscilla Beaulieu, a marriage that ended in divorce in 1973. In 1985, she published her memories of the marriage, Elvis and Me. A few years ago, director Sofia Coppola reread the memoir and was moved by it. These memoirs form the basis for Coppola's new film, in which she portrays a young woman who finds herself in a world where everything is bigger than life.
In 1959, 14-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu lives with her family in Bad Nauheim, Germany, where her father is stationed. At a party, she meets the 24-year-old, then already world-famous conscript Elvis Presley. There is an instant click, although Priscilla's father thinks the age difference is too big. Three years later, Priscilla moves to Presley's Graceland estate - the beginning of a turbulent period.
