La mujer salvaje (Wild Woman)
Alán González | Cuba | 2023 | 93' | Spanish spoken | English subtitles
Yolanda and her husband live in a Havana slum. When her husband finds out she has a lover, a bloody fight ensues. Both Yolanda and her lover narrowly survive the fight. In a desperate attempt to save her son from the scandal, she decides to run away with him. She is only too late; a video of the incident has gone viral. Then it also turns out that her mother has already fled with the boy, while Yolanda has no idea where the two are... In her emotion, she confronts everyone with the same hostility she herself faces. But deep down, she struggles with her guilt.

Director Alán González shows with La mujer salvaje that condemning others is easier than trying to understand them. And that we seem better able to bear our own fears and misfortunes when others also feel pain and suffering. This intense feature debut won three prizes at the Cine Ceará - Ibero-american Film Festival, and eight prizes at the Havana Film Festival.

Alán González will be present at this screening. He will answer questions from the audience after the films.
