Augure
Young Congolese Koffi has been living in Belgium for 15 years, where he is married to Alice, who is now pregnant with twins. She would like to meet her in-laws, which is one of the reasons for returning to Koffi's native country. Once they arrive, there is no one to pick them up, so they drive on their own to the family home. There, they are received extremely coldly - Koffi's mother Mujila does not even greet them. Is he still blamed for his departure at the time? Or is it down to the wine stain on his face, which has been seen by the family since birth as a sign of demonic evil? A minor incident makes everything much worse.
Belgian-Congolese director Baloji is a multifaceted man, as besides his film work, he is also a visual artist, writer and musician. In this film, his first feature-length film, he offers insight into everyday life in Congo, and how religion (and superstition) play a more than prominent role in it.
