The Body Politic
When young, black Brandon Scott is elected mayor of Baltimore in 2020, he faces the gigantic challenge of turning the tide in the city plagued by poverty and crime. He introduces an ambitious approach to reducing violence in the city, one that he promises will reduce the murder rate. However, violence reaches new heights even before he has a chance to implement the reforms. While the media and political opponents attack his approach, Scott risks his future as a politician by sticking to his ideals.
What happens after an election victory? When does change begin? In The Body Politic, director Gabriel Francis Paz Goodenough explores these themes by following Scott closely. Whether he is attending press conferences, interacting with political opponents, attending the trial of George Floyd's killer or just spending some time with locals.
