Civil War
The United States is divided to the core as the president begins his third term. A number of states have seceded and taken up arms; the president has ordered the bombing of renegade territories and cities. Armed units in California and Texas decide to march on Washington on 4 July, US Independence Day, to depose the president. Four journalists travel overland from New York to the White House in the hope of interviewing the president one more time. A hugely risky venture, as journalists are shot without mercy in the capital.
In this eerily topical film, for which he wrote the screenplay himself, British director Alex Garland shows how the once-mighty US has fallen into a disruptive civil war. He not only shows the fighting, but also has an eye for the underlying causes of all the misery. With Kirsten Dunst and Callee Spaeny.
