The Lobster

Everyone knows the radio and TV adverts for dating sites that portray all members as having a fantastic and romantic life once they have found their new, ever-attractive life partner there. After all, it is socially desirable to share your life with another person. Greek director Lanthinos draws his conclusions from this in the at times surreal The Lobster, in which he paints a dystopian picture of a world where love is no longer a choice, with plenty of humour and satire.

The near future: in the City, it is absolutely forbidden to be single. People who fail to find a partner are locked up in the Hotel, where they are given 45 days to find a partner among the other ‘guests’. Those who fail to do so are turned into an animal of their choice and released into the Forest. With Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz and Léa Seydoux, among others.
