A New Kind of Wilderness

Somewhere in the forests of Norway, far away from everything and everyone, stands an idyllic little farmhouse built by Nik and Maria. Years earlier, the British-Norwegian couple concluded that they no longer wanted to be part of the hustle and bustle of modern society. There in the woods, they and their children Ulv, Falk, Freja and Ronja live as self-sufficiently as possible and, above all, in harmony with nature. They grow their own food, they educate their children themselves. Fate strikes when Maria falls ill and dies far too young in 2019. Will Nik and the children manage to keep the dream alive?

Norwegian filmmaker Silje Evensmo Jacobsen wanted to make a TV series about this remarkable family back in 2014, but Norwegian broadcasting was not interested at the time. After the tragic events of 2019, she contacted Nik again, which eventually led to this honest and moving documentary. Awarded at the Sundance Film Festival.
