La Piscine
His looks were iconic, his film career legendary, his private life turbulent to say the least: Alain Delon. Born on 8 November 1935, he died 88 years later, on 18 August 2024. The actor, who was sometimes seen as the male equivalent of Brigitte Bardot, starred in more than a hundred films, working with numerous directors. With Jacques Deray, he made nine films, of which certainly the psychological drama La Piscine, in which Delon co-starred with his ex-lover Romy Scheider, left a lasting impression.
Advertising copywriter Jean-Paul (Delon) spends his holidays in a luxury villa, just outside Saint-Tropez, with Marianne (Romy Scheider). In love as they are, the two only have eyes for each other, but everything changes when Marianne's ex-lover Harry and his young, beautiful daughter Pénélope (Jane Birkin) pay an unexpected visit. Jean-Paul is quite taken with Pénélope, which leads to feelings of desire, jealousy and rivalry. That goes wrong.
