Barbara and Adam Maitland from the town of Winter River did not survive a car accident, after which their spirits appear to be trapped in the big, old house where they lived. Their peace is disturbed when the Deetz family from New York moves into their house. To chase them away, they enlist the help of a creepy ‘bio-exorcist’: Betelgeuse. If you pronounce that name in English, it sounds like... But how do you get rid of it again?
This, in a nutshell, is the story of Tim Burton's 1988 Beetlejuice, a fantasy film as dark as it is comic, starring Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, among others. Work began on a sequel back in 1990, but it took 36 years for that sequel to materialise. Keaton and Ryder are at it again.
After more than 30 years, the Deetz family returns to Winter River, to the house where so many terrible things happened.
