The Third Man

According to the prestigious British Film Institute, the thrilling film noir The Third Man is the best British film ever made. With a screenplay by Graham Greene, superb camerawork by Robert Krasker, the unforgettable score of zither player by Anton Karas and an excellent cast including Joseph Cotton and Orson Welles, that honorary title is more than understandable. Director Carol Reed saw to it that post-war devastated and occupied Vienna became one of the main protagonists of the story.

Pulp writer Holly Martins (Cotton) has come to Vienna just after WWII to visit his old friend Harry Lime (Welles). Once he arrives, he is told that Lime was killed in an accident. But where is his body? Things don't add up and so Martins sets out to investigate, helped by detective Calloway. Slowly but surely, he discovers that Lime may have been involved in very shady dealings. And what is the role of Lime's mistress Anna Schmidt in all this?
