The GullspƄng Miracle

In this documentary, as remarkable as it is surprising, everything revolves around the questions whether (apparent) coincidence can be the starting point of a mystery, whether that mystery can be solved by those involved, and whether there might be comfort in that? Swedish director Maria Frederiksson shows it all in her first feature-length film, a humorously told story full of eccentric people and bizarre plot twists. It could be a feature film, were it not for the fact that everything really happened.

Norwegian sisters Kari and May, one living in Norway, the other in Sweden, decide to live together again and buy an apartment in the small Swedish village of GullspƄng. To their amazement, the woman they buy it from, Olaug, looks remarkably like their older sister, who committed suicide in 1988. Even stranger: Olaug has the same nickname as their late sister: Lita. The believing sisters consider it a miracle of God. As they delve deeper into the family history, the story gets stranger and stranger.

short film: Wander to Wonder
Nina Gantz | Netherlands, Belgium, France, UK | 2023 | 14' | English spoken
In the 1980s, Mary, Billybud and Fumbleton starred in the popular children's series Wander to Wonder. But after the show's creator dies, they are left alone in the studio. They are hungry and sad, but still carry on making episodes for their fans. Those episodes are getting weirder and weirder. After the great success of her graduation film Edmond, a wonderful animated feature that won director Nina Gantz a Bafta among other awards, this is her second, short stop-motion animated feature - a melancholic, heartbreaking story told full of humour.
