Hokwerda's kind

33-year-old Lin has a successful career as a competitive swimmer behind her, but swimming still has one big challenge ahead of her: swimming the English Channel in record time. That this is a gruelling and dangerous undertaking does not deter her; on the contrary: she loves danger. A few weeks before the crossing, she meets the six-year-old underwater welder Henri, who also thrives in dangerous conditions. An intense love affair ensues in which they challenge each other to ever greater heights, unaware that they are pulling each other deeper and deeper into the darkness.

In 2002, Hokwerda's kind, the third novel by successful Dutch writer Oek de Jong, was published, a story in which unconscious experiences and emotions are reduced to their purest essence. Boudewijn Koole (Kauwboy, Beyond Sleep) has now filmed it, based on a screenplay he co-wrote with De Jong. Starring Sanne-Samina Hanssen and Kevin Janssens in the lead roles. Elsie de Brauw also makes her appearance.
