Where Dragons Live

Harriet Impey and her three older brothers Edward, Lawrence and Matthew face a very unpleasant job: clearing out Cumnor Place the home of their parents, both of whom have died. It is a large house in Oxfordshire, a house filled with endless belongings but also with all their pleasant and unpleasant childhood memories. They are mostly memories of their dragon-obsessed father, the house was full of them, and of their ever-demanding mother. While their own children look on, the four pore over the bulging boxes piled throughout the house, mostly filled with all sorts of esoteric objects. It all has to go, because the house has to be sold.

In her new documentary, filmmaker Suzanne Raes, known for Close to Vermeer, paints a tender portrait of parent-child relationships and does so with beautiful images. The unorthodox upbringing gave the children a magical childhood, but also left scars.
