Babygirl
The press labelled Halina Reijn's Babygirl the sensation of the Venice Film Festival. This unsettling erotic thriller, written by Reijn herself and starring Nicole Kidman, Antonio Banderas and Harris Dickinson in the lead roles, explores the secret, dark sexual desires of its main character and does so from the female gaze. It is a film about self-love and how to love all layers of yourself, ‘including the dark sides’, Reijn said. Kidman won the Best Actress award in Venice.
Things are going well for Romy (Kidman): not only is she the ceo of a big company, at home, with her loving husband Jacob (Banderas) and two lovely daughters, everything is cakes and ale. But still... When the much younger intern Samuel (Dickinson) appears on the scene, a cheeky and cocky guy, she is ready to risk her well-ordered life. She fantasises about sexual submission and with him she can indulge that fantasy. This is not without consequences.
