A Complete Unknown

In the early 1960s, a twenty-year-old, completely unknown folk singer from Minnesota arrives in New York: Bob Dylan, and there he meets his idol Woody Guthrie and his friend Pete Seeger. Both Seeger and Guthrie are impressed by Dylan's musical talent, upon which Seeger decides to take care of the young Dylan; he introduces him to the New York music scene. It is not long before Dylan has made his name as a folk singer in that scene, not least because artists like Joan Baez and Johnny Cash believe in him. But Dylan feels trapped in the folk genre, and to the dismay of his fans, the acoustic guitar is traded for an electric one in 1965.

The quirky and contrarian Bob Dylan is a unique singer-songwriter, as becomes clear in this critically acclaimed biopic by James Mangold, who previously made Walk the Line about Johnny Cash. The role of Dylan is played by Timothée Chalamet, who also sings all the Dylan songs himself.
