Belle de jour
She was only 13 when her acting career began: Catherine Deneuve. Eight years later, she broke through with her role in Les parapluies de Cherbourg and she has never been out of the limelight since. The role she plays in Luis Buñuel's Belle de jour is one of the most daring roles she has taken on in her career. With verve, she portrays a woman exploring the limits of her sexual desires, a psychological study where fantasy and reality intertwine.
The young, beautiful SĂ©verine Serizy (Deneuve) is married to the wealthy internist Pierre, and even though she loves him dearly, there is no (physical) intimacy between the two; her sexual life takes place only in her imagination. During a skiing holiday, she meets Henri Husson (Michel Piccolo), a man with whom she is uncomfortable. But it is Henri who introduces her to a high-class brothel, a place where her fantasies can become reality.
