Memoir of a Snail
Flamboyant octogenarian Pinky has just uttered her last word: ‘Potatoes!’ Her younger, introverted housemate and friend Gracie Pudel, a woman who collects snails, guinea pigs AND beautiful stories, does not know what to make of this. Sitting in front of the house, she begins to tell her favourite snail Sylvia her life story, a story full of misfortunes. How her mother did not survive childbirth, how she and her twin brother Gilbert then grew up with their alcoholic, wheelchair-bound father Percy and how they were separated after his death. And especially about what it meant for her to get to know Pinky. Pinky became her support and companion.
This animated stop-motion film by Oscar-winner Adam Elliot portrays the tragedy of its clay-framed characters in a way that is as magical as it is humorous. Not surprisingly, Memoir of a Snail was nominated for the Oscar for Best Long Animated Film. Featuring the voices of Sarah Snook, Jackie Weaver and Nick Cave.
