Dreamers
Nigerian Isio fled her country because she is a lesbian, something strictly forbidden in Nigeria. She has now been working in Britain for two years, but without the right papers. Things go wrong when she applies for a residence permit. She is detained and placed in the Hatchworth Removal Centre, a immigration removal centre for illegal aliens, pending a hearing. There she meets Farah, who has been staying at the centre for some time. Isio is confident things will work out, but Farah helps her out of the dream: everyone gets deported, regardless of your background. While her future is very uncertain, Isio has made friends and, most importantly, found love.
In her debut film, director Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor paints a warm and empathetic picture of a group of people who usually only show up as cold numbers in statistics. Behind every migrant, she shows, is a story worth hearing.
