The Surfer
He has lived in America for years, but when the house for sale where he grew up in Australia comes up, he does not hesitate for a second: he will and must buy it. He is an avid surfer and right there, he recalls, you have the most beautiful and best waves. He is keen to show it to his son and so the two travel down under. Once on the beach, surfboard and all, they see a sign: ‘Locals only’. A group of almost sectarian surfers led by the ruthless Scally forbid them access to the waves, and violence is not shunned. But the surfer won't be chased away, after which things get hugely out of hand.
With a tormented look like only he can conjure up, Nicolas Cage portrays the frustrated surfer with verve. Lorcan Finnegan directed this exciting and highly entertaining thriller about paranoia and toxic masculinity.
