The Phoenician Scheme
The collaboration between director Wes Anderson and screenwriter Roman Coppola, Francis Ford's son, dates back to 2007 when Coppola, along with Anderson, wrote the story for Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited. Since then, they have worked together many more times, most recently for Asteroid City (2023). It is typical of Anderson, who likes to work with the same people. We often see the same actors appearing in his films, so too in his new film The Phoenician Scheme, a black crime comedy about the interrelationships in a wealthy family, in which regulars Benicio del Torro, Tom Hanks, Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson make their reappearances. Anderson himself wrote the screenplay, obviously together with Coppola.
Wealthy businessman Anatole “Zsa-zsa” Korda appoints his only daughter Liesl, a nun, sole heir to his assets, while he himself embarks on a new venture. This attracts the attention of scheming tycoons, foreign terrorists and determined hitmen, who would be only too happy to get their hands on all those riches.
