Secretary
Lee Holloway comes from a rotten family and this has made her very insecure and shy. To ease the psychological pain, Lee sometimes cuts herself. She wants to become independent, so she decides to get a job. With success: she becomes the new secretary of eccentric lawyer Edward Grey. He turns out to be a very strict boss, who wants to make her better at her job, less insecure and less shy. And Lee thrives on it, though her work remains stressful. One day, when the stress gets a little too much for her, she decides to cut herself again. Grey catches her and is very angry and orders her never to indulge in self-mutilation again. That reprimand is the beginning of a turbulent love affair between two people who have to recognise that pain can be a real treat and arousing.
With this black, erotic comedy, director Steven Shainberg wanted to show that a BDSM relationship can be as loving a form of relationship as any other. With James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
