L'attachement

Single fifty-something Sandra runs a feminist bookstore and is otherwise very much on her own. One day, her opposite neighbour Alex calls; if she would like to babysit his six-year-old son Elliot for an afternoon, as his wife is about to give birth and has to be rushed to hospital. The afternoon turns into a day; Elliot stays overnight at Sandra's. The next day, Alex is at her door crying; his wife has not survived childbirth. Sandra, initially reluctant to commit emotionally to anyone, is touched by Alex's loss and begins to become increasingly attached to him, Elliot and the newborn Cécile. Who are they to each other?

How do we shape our relationships and what is family? From where does the need for connection arise? These are the questions at the heart of Alice Ferney's novel L'Intimité. Director Carine Tardieu filmed it and turned it into a very warm and, above all, excellently acted drama.
